Next time you go for a run, bring a low-carbohydrate, low-sodium sports drink.

Scientists in New Zealand have found that cyclists who downed a drink that contained lower carbohydrate and sodium concentrations (compared to the concentrations in their bodies) were able to outperform their counterparts who drank Gatorade or Powerade. The cyclists’ ability to perform at a higher intensity for a longer period of time was credited to the faster nutrient diffusion into the intestinal tract due to the concentration gradient across the tissue.

Did you know…
A common misconception in choosing where you receive your physiotherapy care is that the clinic written on your family doctor’s script is the only clinic you can go to. This simply isn’t true! The script is there as a suggestion when you don’t know where to look. But where you choose to seek your physiotherapy care is up to you. Speaking to your clinic and voicing your concerns can always help make your decision a less daunting one.
