Osteoporosis Management Program

An Osteoporosis Management Program is designed to help patients with osteoporosis through a combination of exercise, education, and support. Osteoporosis is a condition that causes the bones to become weak and brittle, making them more prone to fractures. At Sheddon Physiotherapy and Sports Clinic, our Physiotherapist Beth, is a Bone Fit™ trained therapist with Osteoporosis Canada. Her assessment includes taking a thorough history, a physical assessment, followed by an exercise program tailored to each individual.

The exercise program that patients are prescribed typically includes a combination of weight-bearing and resistance exercises. Both are known to help build and maintain bone density. Weight-bearing exercises, such as walking and stair climbing, put stress on the bones and help to stimulate the formation of new bone. Resistance exercises, such as weight lifting, also put stress on the bones and help to increase muscle strength, which can help to improve balance and reduce the risk of falls.

Our Osteoporosis Management Program is beneficial for people of all ages and fitness levels, including those at risk of developing osteoporosis as well as those who have already been diagnosed with the condition. Our program can help individuals build and maintain strong bones, reduce the risk of fractures, and improve overall health and quality of life.
