Preseason Assessments
During the preseason our therapists play an important role evaluating strength, flexibility, stability and balance to identify limitations, asymmetries and inefficient movement patterns, which may lead to injury during the season. Early identification of weaknesses, tightness, poor stability or inefficient patterns could help prevent future injuries, as each athlete is given an individualized exercise program to target their weaknesses.
Sports Injury Management and Rehabilitation
During the competitive season, SPSC plays a vital role in managing and rehabilitating any athlete who sustains an injury and guiding their safe return to sport. In the unfortunate event of a sports injury, our clinic excels in providing immediate and effective care. Our therapists utilize evidence-based treatment techniques and modalities to facilitate the recovery process. Whether it’s a sprain, strain, ligament tear, or overuse injury, our team is well-versed in managing a wide range of sports-related conditions. With a focus on individualized rehabilitation programs, our therapists create tailored treatment plans that include manual therapy, exercise therapy, and sport-specific functional training. We work closely with athletes, coaches, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a seamless and efficient recovery journey.
Communication with Coaches, Trainers and Parents
At Sheddon Physiotherapy and Sports Clinics, we understand the importance of communication and working as a team. We value the collaborative partnership with coaches and trainers, recognizing that together we can optimize the performance and recovery of every player. Our team of therapists will communicate with coaches and trainers, to discuss athletes’ conditions, progress, treatment plans, and any modifications to the athlete’s training program. Return to Play Clearance
Sheddon Physiotherapy and Sports Clinic plays an important role in facilitating clearance for return to sport, when it comes to concussions, ACL injuries and other musculoskeletal injuries.
In the case of concussions, we understand the importance of proper management and clearance protocols to ensure that the athlete is ready for return to sport. We use vidence-based concussion assessment tools and follow established guidelines. Our priority is to guide athletes through a step-by-step return-to-sport process, prioritizing their safety and minimizing the risk of re-injury.
In addition, Sheddon Physiotherapy and Sports Clinic takes a comprehensive approach to musculoskeletal injuries, including ACL injuries, ankle sprains, and fractures. Once an athlete reaches the stage where they are ready to return to sport, the therapists at Sheddon will implement evidence-based return-to-sport testing. These specialized tests are designed to assess an athlete’s readiness and determine if they have met the necessary criteria to safely resume their sport. Our testing protocols consider various factors, including strength, functional movements, and sport-specific skills. By following these evidence-based guidelines, we ensure that athletes have fully recovered and have the required physical capabilities to prevent re-injury and perform at their best.

Concussion management programs have become a major focus in sports medicine clinics, due to increased public awareness and recognition of concussions. In addition, we have successfully treated hundreds of sport-related concussions and have a network of specialists, including sports medicine physicians, vestibular physiotherapists, chiropractors and athletic therapists.
