A new study from the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research suggests that exercising in compression gear can help you build strength.
How? The study took powerlifters wearing “squat suits”, (extremely tight singlets that functions to basically restrict blood flow to the working muscles), and compared them to another set of powerlifters that performed the same workout routine but were not wearing the squat suits. This “blood flow occlusion training” has been seen to improve strength athletes by allowing them to increase their bench press, squat, and Deadlift load.
What does this do? The theory is by limiting blood flow and occluding the muscle, metabolites stimulate the production of anabolic hormones like growth hormone, IGF-1, and testosterone–all very important factors in muscle growth and strength gains.
