Chiropractic Care & You

As a Chiropractor, working in Oakville and Burlington at Sheddon Physiotherapy Sports Clinics, I am always amazed when a patient says they hesitate to see a Chiropractor.  They are surprised to find out that I am a Chiropractor treating all sorts of injuries, and that I am not just “cracking” their spine. For some reason people’s expectations of Chiropractic is a 5-10 minute treatment of adjusting, another modality repeated 2 or 3 times a week. They are also worried that once they start seeing a Chiropractor, they will be having adjustments for life.  At Sheddon Physiotherapy and Sports Clinics in Oakville and Burlington, all of our therapists pride themselves on delivering the best evidence-based care while treating our patients. It is also important to give the patient the necessary at-home tools, exercises and/or advice so that they can become active in their own care and reinforce what was treated in the clinic.

A Doctor of Chiropractic has spent four years at an accredited chiropractic institution, receiving more than 4,200 hours of specialized clinical training. The chiropractic curriculum studies anatomy, pathology, biomechanics, chiropractic principles, diagnosis and adjustment techniques. As primary care practitioners, chiropractors can develop and carry out a comprehensive treatment/management plan, recommend therapeutic exercise and other non-invasive therapies, and provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counselling.

With an emphasis on a team approach to patient care at Sheddon Physiotherapy and Sports Clinics Oakville and Burlington, I have found that some spinal injuries do require adjustments, or “cracking” the spine, but this follows the best evidence-based guidelines for therapy.  However, it is not the only approach to these treatments as I have been trained in Active Release Techniques, Medical Acupuncture, Functional Range Release and Sport specific rehabilitation.

If you ever have any concerns, or questions about therapy, or maybe about the therapy you are receiving, I am more than happy to be contacted and answer them to the best of my abilities.

Thank you for your trust and I look forward to hearing from you,

Your Chiropractor, serving Oakville and Burlington
